Dear Fairy Godmother

I have learned so much from the 12 week Growing Wings program that I did with you, that I would love to share it.

I have learned that:

1. I have so much to be grateful for and I truly am

2. If one does not take the time to reflect on their actions, achievements, successes and failures – one misses the important lessons and the answers available, so pause, take a breath and let it all sink in.

3. Happiness is entirely self-made and I am a Self-made Happiness Millionaire
4. It’s not that difficult to achieve great things if you stop and think and respect yourself enough to realise that fears and obstacles exist either because we have mistakenly placed them there or to act as a warning sign, both should be acknowledged and respected.

5. No matter how hard we work for something there are often people in our lives who do not understand our dreams and insist they know better, this does not mean they don’t care (no matter how annoying it is).

6. Sometimes our dreams should be bigger than we make them; we mostly just don’t know (or believe) what we’re capable of

7. Just because it’s called a dream, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t strive to achieve it

8. People who deplete my tank shouldn’t get the most say in my life and on my actions.

9. The news is not necessarily right or a good thing just because Sky and the BBC produce it.

10. Despite what anyone says, my sleep needs are not a bad thing and I will not compromise them

11. If I don’t look after myself properly I am ineffective to myself, to others and worst of all to my Dreams

12. Fear, stress and too much television incapacitates everyone, not just me

13. My school teachers were all wrong and completely and selfishly crushed a dream because they couldn’t dream bigger or be bigger themselves.

14. Allowing myself time to do the things I love is not and should not ever be a luxury item, these things are number 1.

I had a wondeful chuckle at this video clip.  It is a great reminder about what we so often take for granted.

I travel often and find myself in OR Tambo Airport a few times a month and I normally can’t resist going to the Kauai store to buy myself something delicious instead of settling for nasty, bland aeroplane food.

About a year ago I met Lerato, a woman who works at Kauai and would always greet me with a friendly ‘aloha’ and beautiful smile and she would always be cheerful and vivacious – that was until November last year. I walked up to the Kauai counter expecting my usual fun interaction with Lerato (which of corse includes sprinklings of Fairy Dust) but this time I was greeted by a long, sullen face and a bad attitude. I asked her what was wrong and she said that she wasn’t enjoying her job, she was hating it in fact and wanted to find something else. I suggested to her that while she may start looking for another job, in the meantime she should start getting GRATEFUL for everything that she has now, she should look at her life and then take a piece of paper and write down all the things that she is grateful for and see how her life suddenly gets transformed.

She didn’t quite believe me, but she agreed to do the “Gratitude List” anyway… and a few months later I was back in the airport and popped past the Kauai and there she was, back to her bubbly, happy self…. take a look at what she has to say about what she has learned about the power of gratitude.
