8 Lessons on Manifesting from the Beautiful Game
Posted on July 28, 2010
The past 2 months in South Africa have been SO filled with Football Fever, amazing atmosphere and fanatical fans. I was so swept up in this delicious World Cup Madness and Mayhem, that for the Fairy Godmother Community I wrote their July learning module to reflect the lessons we can learn from “the beautiful game” to help us in our manifesting.
I wanted to give you a taste of these lessons too!
1. Life is a GAME
The obvious parallel between Life and Football is that they are both a game. Living life with the mentality that it is nothing but a game is liberating and gives you the freedom to choose how you want to play the game.
2. Player or Spectator?
Now that you know that life is a game, the first decision to make is do you want to be a player or a spectator? You will find that the areas in your life in which you choose to be a player are the areas that work. The Areas that don’t work are your spectator areas – you simply watch the game rather than being part of it.
Life will always reward you when you decide to PLAY!
3. Know the Rules of the Game
The objective of life is very simple – TO HAVE FUN!
The Rules
- He who has the most fun wins
- You can do anything you want utilizing your body, mind and soul
- You have the full power of creation i.e. everything you put into the world materialises
- Your thoughts materialise and become things
- Your words materialise and become things
- Your actions materialize and become things
- With the law of cause and effect in play – ‘what you do to others will be done unto you’ or said in another biblical way ‘what ye sow, so shall ye reap tenfold’
4. Play with your own Style and Strengths
In a Football team, individuals are chosen to play certain positions based on their strengths – whether it is speed, tackling, agility, defensive ability. Those strengths are then enhanced and honed through hours of training and coaching. If you watch a soccer training-camp the goalkeepers will be doing different training from the strikers and goal scorers. There is no point in teaching a goal-keeper how to score goals when his strength is in defending the goal. This may sound obvious yet we don’t seem to practice it in our own lives.
When we focus on our strengths – train them, master them and play with them – the world is better for it and we are better for it. When we play to our strengths we move into flow and we get rewarded handsomely by the Universe.

5. Life is a Team Sport
The reason why it is okay to focus on your strengths, your unique genius, and be a specialist rather than an ‘all-rounder’ is because life is a team sport (thank goodness!).
It does mean that to play the game well, you need to be a team player and connect with others. To achieve your dreams and goals you can’t do it all on your own – you need to enlist the help of others and create a team of others around you who can help you play and vice versa. When each of you plays to your strengths and honours the contribution and strengths of the others then you are on the path to being world champions.
6. Get Good support
In Dream Mapping Workshops, in my book, in talks, on Growing Wings and on the Fairy Godmother Community I am constantly encouraging you to “Set up your Supporting Cast”.
In International Football each of the teams has a “big supporting cast” – they have coaches, assistant coaches, managers, logistics people, nutritionists, physiotherapists, doctors, psychologists etc. etc.
All of these people support the team and the individual players to be the best that they can be.
If you want to play at the level of “EXTRAORDINARY LIFE” then you too need to build a supporting cast of people who will help and support you in becoming the best you can be.
7. Training is pivotal
No team goes into a World Cup tournament without preparing and training. The better your training and preparation, the more likely you are to play the game well. The players don’t expect to be fit, they GET FIT. When they train, they always have a goal of what they are working towards – eg. Winning the UEFA Cup.
A commitment to continuous personal development particularly focused on your STRENGTHS, talent, passions and genius will lead you to be a great player.
If you want to start some training to live your dream life – you can do our workshop, talks, Growing Wings program or join the Fairy Godmother Community.
8. Your Greatness Inspires others
Soccer stars are idolised around the world. There are thousands of little boys around the world who dream of “bending it like Beckham”. Why do these football players inspire millions around the world?
Because they follow their dream, LIVE their GREATNESS and unashamedly share their talent and genius with the world. Isn’t it time you did the same.

Thank you for sharing this. Good lessons those!
In my life I tend to lack a ‘coach’ and mentor and support (lesson 6). Your newsletter helps to fill some of that gap. You are a STAR!
