5 Reasons to Drop the ‘Recession’ Mentality
Everywhere you go you can’t escape the pervasive story about the credit crunch and economic crisis. If it is not the TV blabbing about economic doom-and-gloom, then it is probably your friend or colleague in the cubicle next to you moaning about money.
My concern as a Fairy Godmother around this ‘recession’ mentality is that stories of economic crisis are disempowering stories, negative stories that increase personal stress, anxiety, fear and decrease your ability to be empowered and manifest and create your dream life.
Here are 5 reasons why you should drop the ‘recession’ mentality.

1. It is just a Story and Stories Create Your Life
Whatever stories you fill your mind with will quickly become your reality. Do you really want to be in poverty, misery and have to scrimp and save for the next decade? No?
Well then STOP filling your head with stories about the economic crisis. Stop listening to the media and most importantly stop talking to friends about it. Get responsible and create another EMPOWERING story.
(See previous blog post on How to Create empowering Stories)
2. There are Two Economies – yours and the Macro-Economy
Yes, the Macro-economy may be experiencing a slow down, however at this time there are still people making millions of dollars and some are making more money than ever before. The difference between these people and the majority are that they realise that there are TWO economies – YOUR Economy and your country or world economy i.e. the macro-economy. As an individual there is not much you can do about the world economy but there is a HUGE amount you can do to influence your own personal bank balance.
When the ‘crisis’ began, I realised that I needed to make up an empowering story that would influence my personal economy. My Fairy Godmother story about the current situation is that “in times of crisis people need inspiration, so now is the time for my business to boom.” Guess what? Business is booming for me!
And because I am aware of this story doing the rounds called ‘economic crisis’, I have started an early bird special on my workshops, where if people book and pay early they get a good discount and those offers are being snapped up. I am now filling up my workshops and am sold out four weeks in advance! I have created my own booming economy despite the macro conditions.
3. Look for Opportunities
Warren Buffet has a quote “When everyone is greedy be fearful and when everyone is fearful, be greedy”. People in the marketplace are fearful, so now is the perfect time to capitalize on opportunities that others are too fearful to take.
A friend of mine in New York who runs www.urbandaddy.com is using this time as an opportunity. He has gone on a massive PR campaign and instead of firing, he is hiring. Why? He chuckled when he told me that he is now able to hire top MBA talent at a fraction of their previous cost. The result is his business is booming.
The courageous will prosper and thrive. So get courageous, do things differently to the majority. Will it take something? Certainly, but the rewards will be huge. Now is the time.
4. Fear doesn’t create anything
Creation as an energy form is expansive and growing. Fear as an energy type contracts and debilitates. When you are fearful you don’t take action in your life and live in a constant state of negativity and mediocrity. The story of ‘economic crisis’ is a fear based story of scarcity, lack and victimhood. If you really want to live a life of your dreams, where you are turning your goals into reality you will need to conquer the fears around you, so that you can step into the expansive and thriving energy of creation.

5. Your country needs you
Your country needs you to be an opportunist, an optimist and someone who is creating value and moving the world out of this macro financial state. The longer people are paralysed by fear and scarcity, the longer it will take the macro world economy to move out of recession. The longer you remain in the ‘story’ of financial crisis, the longer the world will remain in the same story. Your country and the world needs you to adopt an empowering story of creation, opportunity, wealth and abundance to shift the current energy. It is all up to you.

5 Tips for your Future Imagined Memory
In my Dream Mapping and Goal Setting Workshops (and also in my book) I teach how to create a Future Imagined Memory (FIM) as a key technique to create what you want in your life and manifest your goals.
Briefly, a Future Imagined Memory is a story, in the present tense, of the ‘outcome’ of your dream or goal. This is an imagined and made-up story of a future event with you in it in which your goal has become a reality. This story should be written clearly, describing the experience in detail and, most importantly, in terms of all five of your senses.
After you have created your story, every day for the next 30 days, spend 10 minutes in the morning or 10 minutes in the evening jumping into your Future Imagined Memory. Lie down, get comfortable, close your eyes and relax. Imagine yourself in the scene. While you are doing the exercise, get excited about it: feel the positive feelings, listen to the sounds, enjoy the sensation of having what you want in your life. Do this every day for 30 days and then stop. Thirty days is long enough to turn the Future Imagined Memory into a desire fully felt and understood by the body and the mind.
In the last few months I have received a number of emails from Daring Dreamers with questions about the Future Imagined Memory Technique… so here are 5 additional tips and tricks for you to apply.
Tip 1: Keep the story exactly the same
Keep the same story for the 30 days; don’t add bits or take bits away. With the daily repetition the mind will often be tempted to change the story. It is important to keep the same story so that this becomes ingrained in the mind and to create a vivid future memory.
Tip 2: Make sure it is the outcome not the how
When you develop your FIM story, make sure that the story is an outcome i.e. that you goal or dream is complete. It has happened. Don’t try to create a story around the process, the ‘how’. As an example if you have a goal to write a book, don’t imagine sitting behind your computer and typing because that is the process. Rather create your FIM about the book being done eg. being at your book launch, seeing the book in a store or being interviewed on TV about the book.
Tip 3: Sensing rather than vivid
A comment from one of my daring dreamers recently was
“what I find is sometimes I do my FIM it goes really well, most of the time I struggle with hearing, tasting & smelling the others are okay”
In NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) there is a theory that one of our senses is slightly more developed than the others. Your primary senses are visual, auditory and kinesthetic, and normally one of these will be your most prominent sense. You may be a highly visual person. When you close your eyes and imagine your future memory you may be able to ‘see’ all the details reasonably clearly, but the hearing may be a little more difficult. You may be a highly auditory person, which means you are more attuned to sound. When you imagine your future memory you can hear all the sounds clearly but may not be able to conjure up the sense of touch with such clarity. Or you may be a kinaesthetic person, which means emotions and tactile sensations are easy for you to imagine and feel but pictures are a bit hazy and sound not as apparent. Whichever is your primary sense, be aware that it is through this sense that you will primarily experience your Future Imagined Memory. However, focus on the other senses too.
Even though you will be imagining your FIM with your five senses, please note that your FIM will probably not be in Technicolor, Dolby sound with which you experience life. Doing the FIM is more like sensing things than necessarily seeing, hearing or feeling things in crystal clear clarity. If it is not sharp and clear don’t worry, just keep doing it.
Tip 4: Distraction
During the FIM process you may find that your mind begins to wander or gets distracted. This is very normal. When you realise that your mind has wandered, gently bring it back to where you were in your story and continue the process. You may need to do this many times during the process. Some days you may find you are more distracted than others.
Tip 5: Narrate yourself through the story
For some people it helps to narrate yourself through the story. You may want to do this silently in your head as you go through the story or a few of my Daring Dreamers like to talk it out loud to themselves, while their eyes are closed and they are imagining it. An idea is to record yourself narrating your FIM and then listen to the narration every morning – this is particularly useful for two reasons.
1. The story is always exactly the same as it has been recorded
2. It is easier to stay focused and not get distracted
Good luck with your FIM and doing it for 30 days – you will be AMAZED at the results.

Dreams, Goals and Success
I was recently interviewed by Liezl Heidtmann from Finesse Magazine… she asked some very pertinent questions about dreams, goals and what makes some people successful and other not. Here they are
LH: Why do you think certain people are able to follow their dreams and others not?
FGM :
From my work with thousands of daring dreamers, I have realised that those who are successful in living their dreams do the following …..
1. Knowing what your authentic dreams and goals are
What big dreams ignite and excite you? Many people have forgotten their dreams and goals, or have become so stuck in the day-to-day rat-race that they neglect that inner knowing that tugs at them to go out and live an extraordinary life, fulfil their potential and be all that they can be. Often our wild and juicy dreams get squashed by critics or experiences of ‘failure’ when we are in our teens or early adulthood and then we decided to ‘play-it-safe’ and most people then end up living lives of quiet desperation, never truly living
2. The Courage to follow your dreams
To consistently step through the fears, and be persistent in forging your own path despite what other people say, the challenges or the difficulties. When you have clear vision and authentic desire overcoming these challenges becomes much easier.
3. Taking continuous and consistent ACTION in the direction of your dreams – never giving up.
This is the key factor that differentiates those who live their dreams and those who don’t. Action is key and persistence is key. Many people think that with a dream or goal you need to be able to know how you are going to do it from start to finish. This is a fallacy and often stops people from taking the first step. You only need to see one action step in front of you and then the next step will appear. It is like hiking up a mountain – you won’t be able to see the whole path from start to finish – but if you keep taking small steps along the path, you will arrive at the summit.
LH: Why did you decide to make your own dreams come true?
FGM:
I realised that I was living a mediocre, boring life. Even though I appeared ‘successful’ to outsiders (running my own business, making money etc.) there was a sense of emptiness about it all. I found myself repeatedly asking the question “is this it? Is this really what my life is all about? Where is the meaning?” It is this questioning that started me on the path to discovering my true purpose and living a life of my dreams. And life has become a phenomenal ride
LH: Why did you decide to create the company Fairy Godmother Inc?
FGM: This company was born as a result of my vision in South America of being a Fairy Godmother and helping other people lead extraordinary lives through their dreams coming true.
LH: What lessons have you learned on your journey in making your dreams come true?
FGM:
It is possible to live your dreams – no matter how wild, strange or unrealistic it initially seems. You can do anything. You are never given a dream or vision that you can’t achieve – if you can see it in your mind’s eye then you can have it, be it or do it.
Be brave enough to be your Authentic Self – when you express who you are and express your unique brand of genius and your incredible gifts that you have brought to the world, then the world comes up to meet you with opportunity.
Listen to your body and your emotions, they are a clear indication of whether you are on the right path for you or not. If you are continuously getting sick or feeling negative and down, it is your body’s way of telling you to make changes in your life.
Have fun!
Keep learning, the more you learn and stretch yourself the bigger and more extraordinary the world gets.
To be grateful for everything that I have and for everything that I am creating.
LH: Please tell me more about your new book.
FGM:
The book is called “The Fairy Godmother’s Guide to Getting What you Want” – it is a practical book that takes you through the process of getting clear on your dreams and goals and then the steps along the way to turn them into reality. It also examines the mind-body-soul connection and how they work together in manifesting what we want. It is filled with practical advice, exercises to implement in your life and also stories from my life and the lives of people I have worked with to illustrate the theory in practical application.
It will be on-shelf from the beginning of July 2009 and for me, it is a real dream come true!
